Tim, I have a client called Shearfab who are based at Widnes. They certainly do the powder coating as I've photographed it in action. Why not have a word with John Tollitt ? 0151 422 3056, he's my contact there and is a jolly nice chap. He'll certainly help you if he can.

Spectacular images for use in industry create a big and often long lasting impression. I am an industrial photographer working from Cheshire and began my relationship with BIG industry when working as staff photographer with Saudi ARAMCO based in Dhahran in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Everything in ARAMCO was built on such a colossal scale and that was where my appetite for industrial photography began. Since the mid 1990's I've offered my services to manufacturers, process industries, science based industries, fabricators and companies who handle materials ranging from fertiliser to...

In 2017, I won the EEF Manufacturing Photography competition in the Professional Category with my shot of stone slab cutting. Commissioned by Atlas Copco Compressors In 2018, I won the Manufacturing Process Category with my shot for DuPont Personal Protection featuring a sprayer coating steelwork. This was later on display at Lime Street Station, Liverpool and other stations around the country. I am keen to learn if anyone else saw any of the 2018 winners at other stations, there were about six in total around January / February 2019. Any sightings please ? Thank you. Adrian Waine

Hi Everybody I am having several articles written at present about my role with clients or potential clients. These articles will all be published in Marketing Matters online Magazine and will be about professional photography and manufacturing. Hence, I am about to ask several clients their reasons why they commission me rather than someone else and what criteria would be important in terms of selecting an industrial photographer for the job. For instance, who might be the best person to do this, does he have proper lighting, has he worked in a factory before, does he understand the...

I am currently looking to source an MRP system. Key functionality for my company is scheduling under the following scenarios: 1) We often receive urgent orders which are required to be integrated into an already tight production schedule. The MRP system shall calculate a “what if” scenario for whether a new order can be accepted to be completed to a customer's deadline. The MRP system shall offer various scenarios of how the new order can be incorporated and, if necessary, which other orders are affected. Finally, when order and deadline is accepted and scenario is chosen, the MRP...

Hi Jane High We went with direct replacements for our lighting. We had several HighBay lighting and replaced them with the LED version of the same to ease installation. We had out maintenance manager replace them himself to save on costs as they were mainly plug and play but there was a little bit of rewiring that was required. We got the lighting company to view the factory and give us a lighting schema to show the lux levels around the building depending on which wattage LED light we preferred. We decided to mix the wattage and have lower watt lighting above our mezzanine floors and...

Hi Jane High There are environmental aspects to consider as well. We have gone for LED soft white panels in the offices after a user test and LED tubes also soft white in the factory and warehouse. They can be disconcerting to look at as they are quite bright but it’s the nearest thing to even day light I have come acrossand, you learn not to look direct at them. The light is so good I don’t notice if its sunshine or a grey day. Buy the best you can afford as there is some junk out there. Once they are up they seem very reliable and there is a big difference on the monthly bill. If you...

Hi @Jane High - two things. I am working with a lighting company in Leamington Spa at the moment called Light Dimensions. Also you might want to take a look at the Low Carbon Project at Aston University. I'm not sure where you are based, but I have a contact there John Kyffen-Hughes who is worth having a conversation with if you are outside the catchment for the programme. Send me a PM on the Community. Happy to give you full contact details for both organisations. Kind regards Denise

We are looking to replace our factory lighting with energy efficient lighting both to save energy and improve the work environment. We have been quoted for the lighting but the focus seems to be on energy saving rather than what type of fittings are most suitable for are applications which include warehousing, production areas and a tool room. We would welcome advice on what has worked for you, type of fitting, what height etc. The computer models do not seem to address how the lighting will work in situ other than providing a lux level, e.g. there is not information on shadows.

In principle we think this could be workable for both sides as it helps with our long term planning. Has anyone else come across this and do you have any advice? Many thanks. Hi Rachel Simmonds - by labour providers I presume you mean temporary agency provider? I do not know of any options for auditing quality of service or delivery in the recruitment industry, but would point you to our industry body - Recruitment Employment Confederation. The majority of recruitment providers are accredited to this REC and have to follow certain codes of conduct including various legislative requirements. If you let me know this is what you had in mind, I can try and help with connections you might find useful. With any recruitment agreements we set up we can provide a...

Hi Paul I am one of the researchers working on the Digital Manufacturing on a Shoestring project. Thanks for sharing your experience. One of the difficulties facing digital manufacturing is that the return on investment is not always that easy to identify, so having companies who have embarked on different digital manufacturing projects share their experience will go a long way towards encouraging other companies that are more uncertain. As part of the project, we will be focussing on a range of differently priced solutions, ranging from systems that a manufacturer could develop...

The NPL Manufacturer Measurement Network will be holding an event with Make UK on 5 December 2019, 'Succession Planning & Skills.' It is well known that people are the most important part of any business, and it is also recognised that there is a general lack of suitably trained people to meet current industrial demands as well as future needs. Apprentice schemes are covering some of these gaps, as are other vocational and workplace training schemes, but is it enough? How can we find the right training for our staff, and how can we ensure that the skills we have within our teams are...
