22-02-2019, 04:45 PMHello everyone, I am looking for a solution to implement traceability in our production, maybe via barcode scanning. This solution should enable in the same time to provide the necessary work-instructions at the workstations and give the possibility to enter the results from quality controls for each sub assembly in order to standardize all processes. Another desired feature is to gain an overview about KPIs, either manual or best automated. We are manufacturing electric devices, so we have a lot of electric related tasks. Mainly PCB boards which have SMD components but also...0 replies | 8 view(s)

21-02-2019, 10:04 AMHello Everyone, In early 2019 Contracts Engineering moved into our new factory in Sittingbourne, Kent. We are a customer-focused subcontract manufacture, our capabilities include 3D CAD design, fabrication/manufacture and assembly. We have had very strong growth over the past several years and in 2017 we identified a larger footprint as critical to our continued growth. In fact, I posted on the Make UK Community nearly two years ago seeking advice from others who have moved their manufacturing facilities (click here). So we wanted to write about our experiences and suggest some tips...0 replies | 41 view(s)

20-02-2019, 12:13 PMMany of our customers require finished parts straight from the plastic injection moulding or CNC machining process. Many others, however, want or need additional ‘secondary operation’ performed on their manufactured parts. These operations are what are known as ‘Secondary Services’ and they can be an integral part of a customer’s project requirement. Why Secondary Services? Secondary services may be required to meet the process control, functional or cosmetic (typically branding or labelling) needs for a specific project. The necessity of these additional services are determined by that...0 replies | 16 view(s)

Time Doctor, can be handy when managing others, as has a screen shot feature, and its assistant style asking you, "what are you doing now" can be good to prompt you to keep logging time https://www.timedoctor.com/ Also Toggl https://toggl.com/mobile-time-tracking-app/ With the need maybe to track executives going to meetings and on site, hubstaff has GPS tracking option.8 replies | 1147 view(s)

20-02-2019, 09:53 AMCharles Clayton started a poll Are medium sized businesses looking at robotic process automation (RPA) and/or robotic desktop automation (RDA) to boost productivity? in Ask the CommunityHi All, Robotic process automation (RPA) and/or robotic desktop automation (RDA) is using "software based robots" to emulate and complete certain work on behalf of people. This technology has been used by large enterprises / multi-national organisations to improve productivity. If you're a medium-sized (i.e. 50 - 249 employees) business and you're looking at what you can do to improve productivity, then is RPA / RDA one of the options you're considering? Thanks in advance, Charles2 replies | 51 view(s)

15-02-2019, 02:53 PMRob Lainchbury replied to a post Tool making for plastic injection models and tiles in Ask the CommunityHi Jim Davison Thank you for getting back to me. Currently I have plans for a range of 20+. However, realistically I'll have an initial range of 10 to start with and looking to mass-produce this range. The surface texture will mostly be fine sand with rocky and stone like textures for cliff edges and out crop areas etc... The material I would like to create these tiles would be plastic. I think the way forward would be to plastic inject after looking at other methods. Although I'm not sure what the best type of plastic to use is, or what the range is.5 replies | 125 view(s)

15-02-2019, 08:25 AMJim Dew replied to a post CE Marking and the Impact of Hardware Design Changes on CE Marked Electrical Equipment in Manufacturing Insights & NewsWe are heavily involved in CE marking for our products and currently we are considering the options of maintaining the CE mark, which means us having an importer in the EU. Around 25% of our product is sold directly in the EU. I am not sure who in the world is going to recognise UKCA? This will take a long time to gain full acceptance. If anything we would consider this to be an 'and' not an 'or'. In a lot of cases we would not have a spare space for dual marking.4 replies | 197 view(s)

This will ensure that UKRI can keep UK researchers and businesses informed of the next steps if the government needs to underwrite Horizon 2020 payments. FYI - I am not an expert and far from it. Just getting advice at this stage. I have multiple models that are tile like models with a dimension of approximately 304mm x 304mm x 100*mm(max) (* range of 10mm - 100mm - this is variable, as the height of the model has contours and a sand like texture with rock formations and terrain sitting on the tiles). I'm also happy for the models to be hollow rather than a huge block of plastic. eg. 5mm thickness all the way around. My questions are;5 replies | 125 view(s)
