BROWSING
What will I find on the Community?
The Community is made up of a series of forums, where you can post questions or share content.
If you want to ask a question or have a discussion about a specific topic, please ensure it is within the relevant topic forum e.g Ask the Community. Each of these topic forums outline what should be discussed within them on the forum overview page.
Please be sure only to post content relevant about the subject in topic forums. Please note if you do post in an incorrect forum a Community Manager may move your post to a more relevant one.
HOW TO REGISTER
Registering for the Community is simple. Follow the steps below:
Once you receive your welcome message you can start.
POSTING
Starting a post
Click on the relevant forum where you would like to start a new post and select the new question or discussion button on the top right of the forum.

Reply to an existing question or discussion in the Community
Quick Replies vs Advanced Replies
Attaching images / documents to posts
Photos and illustrations help bring the context of a question and discussion to life. You will see an extended text editor open with options to add images and attachments.
Including a Poll in your Post
While starting a new post, you can always substantiate your post further with the use of a poll or if you would generally need to take a poll, click on ‘Go Advanced’ button, scroll down and click on ‘Additional Options’ and you will see the option to ‘Post a Poll’. Choose the number of options and submit. Draft the poll question and the options - which are based on the number of options you chose earlier. Poll Timeout refers to the number of days that you allow readers to respond to the poll. Select the other options (not mandatory) and hit submit. Please note you can only post a poll when you start a new post.
@mention a member
When you start a post you should @mention the person you are replying to for example @Daniel Kirmatzis in the form [@firtsname [space] lastname] so they are notified of your reply – if you have done this successfully you will see their name become hyperlinked when you press reply.
Thumbs Up
If you found a particular post engaging and want to show a quick appreciation and acknowledgement, please click on the ‘Thumbs Up’ icon.
Verified Answers
If you have started a post, and have found a suitable answer or response to your post, you can let the reader know by clicking on the ‘Verify Answer’ button.
SUBSCRIPTIONS
Subscribe to a thread - If you want to be engaged and updated about a particular thread and post, you can subscribe to a thread please select the ‘Subscribe to this Thread’ from the options on ‘Thread Tools’. You would receive an email notification as and when there is new activity on this thread. Please make sure that your settings on ‘Email Notifications’ are turned on.

Subscribe to a Forum – If you are interested in a particular forum and want to be notified of all the conversations going on, please subscribe to the particular forum by going to the ‘forums’ page. Once you are there, click on ‘Forum Tools’ and select the ‘Subscribe to this Forum’ option. Please make sure that your settings on ‘Email Notifications’ are turned on.

SHARING CONTENT
Sharing Content via email
If you would like to share content from the Community to non-registered-users, you may do so using the following 2 options:

How to update my details & personal information
If you want to add more details to your profile or upload a picture or edit your current information, you could click on the Settings link which falls under the cog wheel on the top right bar. Image below

Once you are inside ‘Settings’, scroll down to find the ‘My Settings’ link. You will find options to Edit Profile, Edit Signature and change settings on Privacy.
UPDATING MY PROFILE
If you want to add more details to your profile or edit your current information, you could click on the 'My Profile' link which falls under the cog wheel on the top right bar. Image below

Once you are inside ‘My Profile’, click on the 'About Me' tab and add/change your basic public profile details.
ADDING A PROFILE PICTURE
Adding a profile picture is a fantastic way for the rest of the community to get to know you and helps them put a face to a name!
To add a profile picture to your profile, please follow the instructions below:
Click on cog icon in top right-hand corner of the screen and then click on settings from the drop-down menu

Under my settings on the left-hand side menu, is the option for My Profile. You then need to select Edit Public Profile Photo

You can then upload a file from your computer and press save changes. You may need to refresh your browser for the changes to apply
DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT
Users have the right to delete their account on the Comunity and their personal data at anytime. To request for your account to be deleted please email communityteam@makeuk.org
FORGOTTEN PASSWORD
If you have forgotten your password please press on the forgotten password link at the top of the page.

This will take you to a new page where you will be asked to enter the email you registered with. Once you have entered your email and answered the random question you will need to press the request username / password now button. You should receive an email with instructions of how to reset your password [Please check your spam folder if you don't receive it and if not in spam then please contact the Community Managers]
ADDING VIDEOS TO YOUR POST
Start a new thread in the usual way (i.e. within the forum where you want your post to be).
You can then add your text as normal, by writing in the editor box. To embed a video click on the icon of roll of film to insert a video into your post. Shown below

Clicking on this icon will bring up for a box to insert the video URL. See below

You can then paste the URL of the viedo you wish to embed in your post. IMPORTANT: You can only embed videos that are already hosted on Youtube or Vimeo. To insert the video you need to paste the long URL from the address box - shown below.


Then press OK to embed the video. The video embed will show as code, until you hit submit on your post. The video will then show as embedded on your post like below

ADDING PHOTOS TO YOUR POST
Start a new thread in the usual way (i.e. within the forum where you want your post to be).
You can then add your text as normal, by writing in the editor box.
Click on the icon of a tree in a box on the dashboard at the top of the editor. This icon is on the second row towards the right-hand side. Shown below

Clicking on this icon will give you the options for where you can add an image from. You can either add an image from your computer or from a URL.

If adding a file from your computer click on choose file. Then select the image you want from your computer files. When you have selected the file press upload files. This will add the picture to your post.
To add a file from a URL, select from URL rather than from a computer. You then need to paste the URL for the image into the box. To add the picture to the post, press insert.
When the picture has been added you can see it in the post. If you then double left-click on the picture you can adjust the size of the images. E.g make it larger or adjust the positioning
ADDING AREAS EXPERTISE TO YOUR PROFILE
In order to help others in the community understand your interests and skills, we encourage you to add your main areas of expertise to your public profile. For example your expertise may be LEAN or HR etc.
To add your areas of expertise follow the steps below.
Click on the cog icon on the top right corner of the screen (under your profile picture). On the drop down click on Settings

Then scroll down and click on Edit Profile. This option can be found under My Settings / My Profile

You will then see a list of areas of expertise - please tick which ones are relevant to you.

HOW TO REGISTER
Registering for the Community is simple. Follow the steps below:
- Go to the Registration Page [Click here]
- Enter your details as requested including a valid work email address
- Check the agree terms box
- Press complete registration box
- Once you have registered you will receive a welcome message from a Community Manager [please check your spam folder if you don’t receive it in your inbox].
Once you receive your welcome message you can start.
POSTING
Starting a post
Click on the relevant forum where you would like to start a new post and select the new question or discussion button on the top right of the forum.
Reply to an existing question or discussion in the Community
- Quote - use this if you want to respond to a particular comment - not necessarily the most recent comment on a discussion or question. Click on the comment you want to reply to and then please click on ‘Quote’ and the particular comment will be inserted in your ‘Reply Box’
- Advanced Reply – If you would like to enhance your response by adding images, video content, using different font types and colours, all you need to do is click on the ‘Go Advanced’ button. You will see an extended text editor open with options to change font type and size, add images, videos, links, emoticons and attachments.
Quick Replies vs Advanced Replies
- Quick Reply – If you are on the move, or viewing our network on your mobile device and do not want to miss the opportunity to engage and respond to an ongoing discussion, press ‘Reply’, type, post and you are good to go!
- Advanced Reply – If you would like to enhance your response by adding images, video content, using different font types and colours, all you need to do is click on the ‘Go Advanced button. You will see an extended text editor open with options to change font type and size, add images, videos, links, emoticons and attachments.
